This is by far my favourite BigFinish series presently. It’s sophisticated and intelligent like no other series they’ve done.

The series story arcs and character arcs are deployed with such finesse. I only wish that this level of attention was given to all their series. I adore BigFinish; however, with its expanded offering and increasing popularity some of it’s Stories are suffering. Personally I believe they’re in much need of an independent producer or top level script editor. Because as the volume of productions increased in recent years so too has the worst short coming increased - that of, too many average story lines reaching us, their fans.

And there’s absolutely no need for it.

Well, in my opinion BigFinish must remember that although they have the backing of so many incredibly devoted fans like myself. Who basically buy every single title they produce- they mustn’t take this for granted. I believe it’s now time to bring in a new story producer or a new creative director. Do that and I believe BigFinish could be better than ever. Do nothing and I believe thy begin to risk everything. For there is nothing more competitive today, then the increasing bids made by producers for our entertainment dollar. And the quality only continues to increase. ∴ I hope BigFinish will respond to this challenge. Because the truth is - when they’re on their game they’re magnificent. Truly magnificent.

Anyhow, back to Gallifrey.

This is a series that has absolutely none of these problems. It’s incredibly clever. The stories are so alive. Political theatre that would make even Shakespeare appalause. The pace is forever moving. The twists never obvious and the characters wonderfully three dimensional. Romana is never the whining girl we too often saw on television and in the 4th Doctor Adventures. No. She is strong, forthright, a true commander in-chief. And Narvan, well, he’s devious and yet devoted. No one is cartoon evil or wholier than now. It is one of the, if not the, most impressive story telling I’ve experienced this year. That includes fiction, radio, television and cinema.

If you enjoy wicked machinations and desire to learn more about the mysterious Time Lords, well, your going to have the time of your life.

Series 1, sets up an incredibly exciting new series. It’s a continuation of the “Mission of Viyrans” story arc, which begins in the Main Range. It covers multiple episodes and Doctors.

I like listening to multistory Story Arcs. It can be a really enjoyable way to listen to BigFinish. As a newcomer, the Main Range can be really daunting. It’s so huge isn’t it. How to approach it is a natural question. Obviously, buying their subscriptions is one way (the way I prefer, mainly because I want to eventually buy the whole range). But if your looking just for a selection or a logical way to buy the stories, I’d suggest 2 ways. The 1st is to look here on TimeScales and buy the highest rated episodes first. Alternatively or in combination, do a little research or use BigFinish’s built in search engine. It’ll tell you “some” of the Story Arcs and which stories belong to which.

This series is a continuation of the Mission to Viyrans Story Arc.
Look, I agree at times this series can seem a tad disjointed, nevertheless it’s one of the most exciting Boxsets I’ve heard. A real sci-fi adventure like the ilks of Vienna. Series 2 starts out with a loud bang & a roar! I loved it. I immediately wanted more and unlike series 1, which crossed multiple settings, this season is a set of continuous progressive stories set on Earth.

It’s an exciting action story. A real roller-coaster. I think it’s heaps of fun and don’t really understand or relate to the generally average ratings. Don’t be put off by a rating of 6/10. That’s actually a very common rating and given its coming from devoted Doctor Who fans, suggests they did enjoy the story. But for them, it just didn’t scream “amazing”. But you can’t appeal to everyone all of the time and many of Nicholas Briggs series have been award winning and some of the most popular titles at BigFinish. For example: War Doctor, Dalek Empire, The Prisoner, Dark Eyes, etc.

As far as I’m concerned it’s a brilliant boxset. I highly recommend it.

It’s brilliant this serial. And as the other reviewers have said, Terrance Dicks writes a masterpiece of a script.

For any long term fans of Classic Who your just going love this. It’s fun, wiry, witty, clever and very exciting. I don’t think it’s dated that badly at all. In fact, I’ve been pleasantly surprised how good the 5th Doctor era actually is. The BBC was still investing in the show and the fifth Doctor really grows on you - in my experience that’s thanks in great part to BigFinish.

Anyhow if your looking for something special and that’s exactly what you get when two or more Doctors appear in any story, let alone The Master, Rassilon AND The Time Lords; and then throw in some of all time greatest companions: Sarah Jane, K9, Tegan, Turlough and the Brigadier - how could it be anything but!

Personally, I loved this adventure. I was incredibly impressed with BigFinish’s first ever Monthly Title. It really did exceed my expectations. It was wonderful having 3 Doctors together. I was enthralled by this mystery and enjoyed the clever time ideas explored within. The antagonist was original and I felt excited and enthralled right the way through.

The 1st -100 Monthly Main Range Titles are now only $2.99 each to download. That’s incredible for a 2 Hr full-cast production. I’ve rarely, if ever, been disappointed with any of them and I am looking fwd to subscribing to this range, as they’re even cheaper this way. I really am surprised at the quality given how early these were produced in BigFinish’s history. A number even went on to form the basis of stories for the 2005 relaunch of Dr. Who.

If your a budget conscious person you can’t go wrong with beginning your exploration of BigFinish with the 1st 100 Monthly Titles. Other great and affordable ranges incl. Dalek Empire or Gallifrey series.
