The split infinitive is a seven, ace and counter measures story that has a really timey wimey plot with ace working with counter measures in the 60s and the doctor working with them in the 70s. John dorney is the writer of this story and he is very good at these kinds of timey wimey stories although i felt that this story was one of his weaker scripts. I felt that the plot was good but it was nothing overly special. However i did like how we kept on swapping between the two decades which led to some confusing but overall fun story telling.

I've never listened to any of big finish' counter measures stuff and so this story didn't mean that much to me in that respect and i'm also not very familiar with the villains of the story. Perhaps i would've enjoyed this story a lot more if i was more familiar with these characters but i still found it enjoyable for what it was.

I did like the counter measures characters and this story has made me want to check out their series which i will probably end up doing at some point. This story has a lot of action in it and feels very bond-esque which is a nice little feature. I felt that the pacing was little off throughout and the plot was nothing special but all in all this is still a good release that i enjoyed listening to.

Lies in ruins is a solid start to the legacy of time and sees river song and bernice summerfield meet for the first time. The interactions between these two were very good and were one of my favourite parts of the story, i only wish there were more scenes where these two got to play off of each other. The eighth doctor is very tired in this story and seems like he is nearing the end of his life as he is just fed up with the time war and so is likely nearing his regeneration. I thought the doctor was very good in this story and i liked how we got to see just how much the time war has broken him down and made him consider doing things that he would never normally do. His characterisation is a little different in this story to reflect how sick of the time war he is but i liked it and felt like it did a good job of showcasing that eight is not a warrior and a war like this has just destroyed him.

New companion ria was an interesting idea who was purposefully annoying but she did get a nice little moment near the end of the story. The villain of the story is a bit shit and the ending is also a bit anticlimactic but overall i did enjoy this story and the performances were, as always, very good.

Darkness and light follows on from where the missing link left off and we find out that the master has been capturing these remarkable people in order to create a creature with abilities of them all to help win the time war. The creature is known as the rage and it isn't a wholly original idea for a monster but it works well enough in this story and there are some scary moments as it stalks our characters throughout the story.

The doctor and the master spend a good bit of this story working together which leads to some excellent character interactions. Scenes where the doctor and the master debate with each other and talk about their childhoods together are some of my favourite parts of doctor who and this story gives us lots of that. There are some moral debates that the two characters have in this story where you genuinely can understand the masters point of view and it adds to this storys' theme of the doctor and the master sharing some similar qualities and in some ways being two sides of the same coin. Paul mcgann is brilliant as the doctor in this story and you can tell that he has been involved in the time war for a while now and is just sick of dealing with all the death and destruction and he is probably nearing the events of night of the doctor.

The actual plot has some great twists and like the previous story we get to see how manipulative this incarnation of the master can be, however there were some parts of the masters plan that i found to be a little bit convenient and perhaps unbelievable. For the most part though the masters manipulations worked very well and although a lot of the story is just the doctor and the master trying to escape from the monster there are some great little twists and the character interactions between the doctor and the master are some of the best i've ever heard. Overall darkness and light is a great ending to the third war master boxset.

The missing link connects the previous two storys as we find out that the master has been collecting people with extraordinary abilities to be researched at his facility. Seeing the master run a facility where he is the boss led to some funny moments such as when he congratulates someone on being employee of the month but also shows how ruthless and manipulative the master can be as he uses his employees. This story is the first of a two parter and so a lot of setup is done in this one and paul mcgann shows up in this one. I thought that the doctor worked very well in this story and the ending was amazing with so many great moments showing how clever and manipulative this version of the master can be.

Alice is in this story again and her and the doctor share some good scenes with each other as they are paired off for most of the story. Unfortunetley i found most of the side characters to be pretty weak and the characters didn't mean that much to me and the start of the story was a little slow. However it wasn't that big of a deal and the best part about this story is definetley how it shows the cleverness of the master. Overall this is a very solid story that is definetley worth checking out.
