President livia is stepping down from the presidential office and appoints a war council puppet, valerian as her successor. Romana decides to run against valerion in the election and is willing to regenerate in order to serve another term. Meanwhile the daleks are trying to gain control of the project revenant facility.

The debates between romana and valerion are interesting but at times they can seem to be not so subtley influenced by the 2016 american presidential election which is one small complaint i have as its not very subtle. For the most part though the politics in this episode are brillaint and lalla ward and sean carlsen give great performances.

The ending is shocking and gives us the reveal of a character who we knew would have to appear on gallifrey at some point and it leaves me really excited to listen to time war vol 2. This is a great conclusion to time war vol 1 and i would strongly reccommend this boxset.

Leela and the master are sent by romana to look for a weapon that can apparantley end the time war and only a man named finnian valentine seems to know what the weapon is. This story is great, leela and the jacobi master play off each other really well and there are some brilliant character focused scenes between the two of them. For the master this story is set between beneath the viscoid and the good master and its nice to have these two series connect like that.

This story mainly focuses on interactions between the master, leela and finnian valentine who the master and leela must interrogate to try and find out what the weapon is. Finnian however has been split into two separate people and its interesting to see the different ways that the master and leela go about interrogating finnian as it shows how different the two of them are but they are still similar in some ways.

The master is at his most cunning in this story and he seems to be almost always in control of the situation and the ending leaves me really intrigued to find out what has happened to leela.

Ace and brax are sent on a mission to the obscura, a temporal remnant from gallifreyan history that is so paradoxical that even just looking at it can drive people mad. When they reach the obscuras' research station brax starts to get very secretive and seems to be hiding some sort of weapon from ace and dana who is braxs' old mentor and is the only person working at the research station.

This story is a great insight into braxs' character and shows us how he can be quite manipulative and cowardly. He and ace clash well together and its clear that they don't trust each other much. I thought that the obscura was a very interesting concept and that it made for a great addition to the time war.

This story also manages to mostly reconcile some of aces' contradictory departures as in the sarah jane adventures its mentioned that ace is living on earth and this story provides a good reason for how that happened and reconciles it with ace becoming a time lord. This story is a great addition to the time war and if you are a fan of brax then i would really recommend it as he gets some great character moments in this story.

Now with frobisher being a private investigator of course there was going to be a film noir story done with him and for the most part i think it works as a bit of light hearted fun.

Robert jezek is great in this story and its a shame that we've only seen him play frobisher in two storys so far. Colin baker is also very good and the doctor and frobisher have some good scenes together. I liked how frobisher found himself to be overshadowed by the doctor and i thought that it was an interesting reason for a companion to want to leave.

The villain is a bit of a sterotypical immoral rich guy but it works well enough in this story as i don't think this story is meant to be too serious. Frobishers ex-wife was an interesting addition to the story and although we arn't told that much about her and frobishers past relationship in the story I'm pretty sure that its explored in the dwm comics, which i havn't read yet.

Overall this was a fun story and while it is probaly rob shearmans weakest big finish story it is still quite good. Shearman has still failed to write a story that i have disliked.
