A super hero vigillante / Dr. Who crossover, this story is entertaining, but only just. The story's premise works well enough. But, the overall execution in script and performance is lacking. Jago & Lightfoote eat up too much screen(?)time with unnecessary comic relief and worst of all, it seems as if Mary Tamm and Tom Baker recorded their performances individually. There is absolutely no chemistry between Romana and the Doctor and none of the wit or nuance in the role on the part of Mr. Baker. I think it's probably fair to blame the director for any short comings with this one. Overall, it is it is uninspired and mediocre.

This one is a very good historical adventure. Over all the script is okay and the acting is excellent.

But, it does have some issues that, in my opinion, keep it from being the excellent adventure that the reviews make it out to be.

First, the Doctor and Melanie make some really poor decisions. There's a big one the Doctor makes (that I won't go into because it is too important to the story) and Melanie is continually rude to the villagers of Pompeii. These actions made it hard to listen to, even if the script was written in the spirit of the classic show.

More importantly, I think my biggest complaint is that there really isn't any suspense to be had in it and the cliff hangers aren't terribly nail biting. Because this is based in an actual historical event, we know how it is going to end. To make matters worse, the one future incident which will spell the end for our main characters turns out to be a cheat.

So, sadly, I rate this one a 7 out of 10,

A damn good episode that builds to a series of events that will change the future of the galaxy. The writing, as in all of the episodes of this series is top notch. And it's got the best star ship launch since the Millennium Falcon blasted out off Mos Eisley!

Series One ends with a number of great twists and turns and ends with fantastic cliff hanger!

I purchased episode 1 as a curiosity and I'm so glad that I followed it through to the end of the season. It's worth every penny! (Especially at $5 a piece!)

I can't wait to start Season 2!
