A bit of a shame this one. It wasn't as spectacular as a special needs to be, it needs to be big and bombastic, or at least I want it to be.
Spoilers from here.
The stuff with Ryan's dad was dull and really hit the pace and the microwave solution was silly.
I did however like the new dalek stuff. The controlling was pretty freaky which was good and I did quite like the rustic look (though it didn't appear to have the time to do anything like that complicated). And the dalek taking out the troops was terrifying and spectacular, the new extermination effect is superb. I do not even have a problem with the scout being taken out by the 9th century army, if there were enough of them and they had the right plan it could work though there would be a lot of sacrifice which the story implied but maybe not heavily enough. My only problem with the dalek was its stormtrooper aim, you cant have it take down soldiers them miss the Doctor because plot. Some may not have noticed but I did I'm afraid.
So overall it was OK but quite dull. Not what a special needs to be.

Wow. Ok. First off the plot is ok but some of the consequences of events don't make perfect sense which explains my plot rating and is the only thing that lets this down.
However, Geoffrey Beevers is so unbelievably chilling and evil its worth it. In the same way Derek Jacobi's master chills your very soul, so does Beevers and it's so damn good.

I liked this episode quite a lot which was a relief. Episodes 5 to 8 I wansnt that keen on, they seemed to abandon any character development and the whole series brushed over Ryan's coordination disorder which I feel should have come up more. I was feeling a little disappointed until last week which I liked and now this.
Tim Shaw was a mediocre villain in the first episode but here he steps it up a gear and had real menace and gravitas. The threat he posed was real and felt, some close up earth shots would have been nice to emphasise it.
The planets shrinking down did remind me of The Pirate Planet, but in a good way.
This episode had some great concepts and great tension building. It flew past, Jodie had been reminding me on Tenant a bit too much but she seemed more herself this week, if that makes sense. Looking forward to new year and the daleks.

Kind of liked this. Was.dubious about Keller machine coming back but it was done alright. Resolution a bit meh but otherwise a fun story. Great return of an old character.
