At the end of Tsar Wars, the Doctor made it back to his home but more than 150 years too early. He finds himself in a Hexford of 1861 where a reclusive and mysterious boy holds the key to the disappearance of several locals, and perhaps an intergalactic Empire.

So far, more than the predecessor sets, Serpent's Crest feels like one larger story rather than smaller ones told through a framing device. The setting of Victorian London is a familiar one for Doctor Who and one that's been used better than in this story. The way this ended left me feeling conflicted with the only seeming message being that sheltering children from imaginative literature may make it more desirable or cause them to open a rift in time and space.

Overall, it kept my attention and I'm looking forward to Part 3.

The Doctor and Mrs Wibbsey find themselves at the rectory. Entertaining story!
