This is my favorite War Doctor story. The Neverwhen is exactly the kind of time-related craziness I would like to see from a Time War story. A battlefield where both parties are locked in an eternal fight with technology that keeps changing, where not even death is a certainty.

The twist in this story really gripped me the first time and it is a real joy listening to this story again and seeing the hints of what was going on that I missed the first time.

John Hurt does a good job at playing a weary and disobedient incarnation of the Doctor that struggles to remain true to his principles in the most cruel of circumstances and keeps looking for a way to end the violence. Olistra also stands out in this story as the cold cardinal that is willing to do anything to procure a victory for the Time Lords, even if it means sacrificing some of her own people.

All in all, this is a great story that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in the Time War.

Jacqueline Pearce steals the spotlight in the final act of the 2nd War Doctor box set. She adeptly portrays Cardinal Ollistra as a sympathetic villain or anti-hero gone a step too far depending on how you choose to interpret it. The plot delivers the most atrocious horrors of the Time War we have seen yet and absolutely lives up to every shadow of imagination that the fabled event conjures. This release is epic in every way.

John Hurt is great, the plot is twisty and turny, the special effects are fantastic, and the ending is a great hook for the next box set.
