The TARDIS arrives where a murder mystery contest is being held. The prize? An extensive library. The risk? Death. This is a clever and suspenseful story with a clever solution and truly sinister villain in Mr. Norris. I have to compliment the sound design which really served to build the sense of suspense.

Very Noir this outing with Sylvester, we find that the Tardis as landed on a planetoid, where the incredibly strange Mr Norris is gathering knowledge, however the method in which he is extracting the knowledge and the manner in which he is obtaining it is somewhat despicable, coupled with the fact of his reasoning of why he needs it. The Doctor is quick of the mark, and enjoys the challenge, especially when it turns out that Mr Norris is actually using the premise of this being a "game" for the intellectual to aspire to and try and win. If you win you win a library to put to shame the British and the Alexandria one. It is not long before the Doctor himself is caught up with the idea of actually winning this deadly game that Norris is using to lure the unsuspecting mind to their death. Ace on the other hand engaging with the house keeper to Norris, soon learns that Mrs Briar, is actually marooned with Norris after her husband succumbed to his own premature end after accepting the challenge. This is cracking and re-established my faith in story telling for this Main Release in the Who range. I loved the almost gothic construction of the story, and the way that the story just flows along. I especially love the way in which John Culshaw is almost effortless in his performance.
