Following on from Better Watch Out, this adds new elements of timey wimey story telling. Bits and Pieces that fall together explaining each other turn it into an elegant mosaic.
Along with this is another framing story, when the first one still hasn't been resolved and some more characters to follow.

The elegance of this does take away from the main characters who were hardly even featured in the first half of this episode.

This is the kind of story where being able to fully pay attention has its rewards.

Picking up on the cliffhanger from the previous story, "Fairytale of Salzburg" delivers the payoff from the previous episode quite nicely, filling in some details and backstory as well as dealing with the problem of the Krumpas.

This story had quite a few twists, some I saw coming, but a few genuinely surprised me. The story has a lot of great emotional moments and all of them have been earned throughout the story. Overall, these two parts make for one of the best Doctor Who Christmas tales ever.
