The Doctor, Liv, and Helen arrive on a TARDIS that’s stopped in the middle of the Vortex where strange experiments are going on. This is very cleverly written with a great sense of mystery as to who these characters are and what they’re doing, and helped by some very solid guest performers. The story twists towards the end with a very surprising reveal. It serves to amp up the tension for the rest of the box set.

Possibly the weakest thing that Dorney has written. He's such a good writer that it's quite a disappointment. An even bigger disappointment is that Big Finish has wheeled out yet another Bertie Wooster/P.G Wodehouse style character. For god sake give it a rest BF!!!!

Dorney has upped the stakes here, with the second installment, we find the Doctor, Helen and Liv on the trail of who destroyed the Voord home planet, only to discover in the Vortex a Tardis, unwrapped as well for that matter. The unwrapped Tardis is home to a Gothic nightmare, where two twisted time lords are lording it over a bunch of individuals who are performing the most extreme of medieval style torture of their prisoners. The experiments that these two are carrying out, are a telepath of unequal power and ability, that can literally strip the body of it's construction turning you in to a pile of bones and parts. Ok I am not going to concentrate too much on the story, as to be honest there isn't a great deal of it here, there is however, a lot of dialogue, that for me is starting to very much mimic Divergence hell. I found that this story in itself was a little contrived. It does not so much move along the whole work. It seemingly gets us to hang around a sort of verbal pause. In saying that it is head and shoulders above the Beachhead, but the quality of the production does not out weigh the work. All the ensemble put in a fine performance, I just fear that Doom Coaltion is not really delivering here. I can only hope that the third instalment picks up the pace a little.
