This episode went straight into the famous greats of Doctor Who history and rightly so. It introduces a superb new monster 'The Weeping Angels' which can stand alongside the Daleks and the Cybermen as legendary evil adversaries for the Doctor. The Angels themselves are properly scary and the tension and frights expertly created by writer (and future Showrunner) Steven Moffatt and director Hettie Macdonald establish this as one of the best Doctor Who stories and a top example of TV science fiction/horror. It manages to also be genuinely funny in the humourous parts of the script and very engaging in the human drama the story involves.

The Doctor and Martha are not in the episode very much which makes it all the more amazing how good this manages to be. When they do appear they are perfect. Future Hollywood star Carey Mulligan is wonderful as Sally Sparrow and the other guest characters are also great. Not only is acting and direction top notch, the production values are all fantastic and the story itself is clever, thrilling and absorbing. The script is intelligent and entertaining and the atmosphere and suspense are terrific.

Following the phenomenal two parter Human Nature/The Family of Blood, this continues an unbelievable run of fabulous episodes and continues to make the 10th Doctor's era one of the best. 10/10 and one of the top 10 stories in the show's history.

I am sure you can tell that I am a moffat fan and I do love this episode but I do think that this episode might be a tad bit overrated. I don't think that it's the classic that most people make it out to be.

I do love it but it's not my fav moffat script, not even of the RTD era.
