The Doctor travels to Germany in the 19th century on the trail of the titular demons. In Germany, he encounters a storyteller and writer of fairy tales running short on inspiration and time.

In a twist, Albert Tiermann actually becomes the narrator of the piece. It's an interesting experiment that carries us into his inner world where we learn the inspiration from his stories comes from the Ice Queen who has a far more sinister side. Tiermann provides us an outsider's perspective from someone who has the Doctor turn his whole world upside down. Tiermann only cares about his stories and has a heart that's cold to others and that really leads to a conflict with the Doctor.

What Magrs manages to really create it is a true Doctor Who Fairy Tale complete with magic and morals.

My only complaint is that the use of Tiermann as the narrator ends up making Mike Yates almost redundant as the good Captain is little more than a plot device.

Still, this was a fairly solid and satisfying middle chapter in the demon quest saga.

A safe piece of fluff enhanced by Samuel West as a central narrator. To be enjoyed with crumpets and a nice cup of tea.
