Synopsis
Angela Bruce was born in Leeds in 1951, but was brought up in the mining village of Craghead, Country Durham.
As a teenager, she attended a performance of Hair and was invited, with other audience members, to join the cast for a dance on stage at the end of the show … that led to being cast in the show and the beginning of her career! She was the second actress to play Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show with Tim Currie.
Angela made her big screen debut in the feature film Man at the Top (1973), but is best known for her TV work. She has appeared in Angels, Coronation Street, Press Gang, Bad Girls, Hammer House of Horror, Red Dwarf, Only Fools and Horses, Silent Witness, Prime Suspect, Spooks and Death in Paradise.
She also played the title role in Mary Seacole: The Real Angel of the Crimea (2005), Gina in the film Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage War (2002).
To Doctor Who fans, Angela will always be remembered for her iconic performance as Brigadier Winifred Bambera in the 1989 serial Battlefield. She returned to the role in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio adventure Animal in 2011.
Angela joins Sophie Aldred on a trip around locations used for Battlefield to chat about her life and career.
