A lot of fun putting River into her Melody Malone persona and dropping her into a whodunit scenario filled with a caravanserai of detectives. The episode uses many tropes of the whodunit genre and they have a lot of fun with it.

Well written by Matt Fitton.

It was a dark and stormy night. An death by the roadside... A castle with a body... Guests with alibis, or motives, or was it...?

Melody Malone (Amy Pond's noir detective) finds herself navigating a mystery within a mystery- nothing is quite as it seems and the facts are hard to nail down. The meta-mystery is an interesting premise and a good use of Rivers alter-ego. The twist is a bit left field but takes the story in an interesting direction (sorry sweetie, no spoilers).

The final result is a bit abstract but succeeds in tying the pulp mystery to the sci-fi of the rest of the box set.

As Melody Malone, River shows at an old house where other detectives are gathered. In many ways, the first half of the drama calls to mind movies like, Murder by Death and is pretty fun. Then, we get the clever twist which takes the story in a different direction. It's not bad, but it's a bit too clever for it's own good and confusing.

Very welcome return (or first appearance) of Melody Malone with some fun side characters too. Not the strongest point of the box set but well worth the listen!
