I feel there are many many compliments I can give this story. The cast has fully improved and I’ve accepted their difference to the originals, the historical research is excellent, the side cast lovely, the sounds and score acceptional and the plot is just lovely elegant simple good old school who.
Why we haven’t had a tv episode like this I will never know. The history of Japan has so many stories this show could tell , aliens or not!
Please this set has been extremely high quality. Give it a go!

In the Barbarians and the Samurai, the Doctor and the TARDIS crew arrive in early 19th Century Japan which had still banned Westerners. They quickly are hunted by the Samurai. However, when the Doctor and Barbara are captured they find themselves in the midst of political intrigue.

This is a solidly researched story that brings this era to life in a realistic way. The characters are great. The Japanese Characters really fit the time and believable but without being predictable which leads to a scrip that often surprises. Overall, this is an outstanding historical.
