I’m sorry, but this is a truly dreadful episode. The story is silly beyond the point of credibility—the Federation decides to invent its own God. If you can swallow that as a premise, you’re far more forgiving of bad writing than I am.

The storyline is confusing, and some of the dialogue is so wince-making the actors don’t even seem to be trying. Jan Chappell has a tendency to be over emphatic sometimes when playing Cally on audio, and that is very obvious here. If I had to pick the absolute low point of the episode it was when Cally and another character started kissing—and my ears filled with the lamest smooching sounds I think I’ve ever heard.

I forced myself to listen to the end, simply because I’d bought it, but honestly can’t recommend this to anyone who isn’t a completist fan. There aren’t many real duds in the Big Finish Blake's 7 output, but this is one of them.

I hate to say it, but this is the first B7 story I have given up on before the end.
As far as I could tell it had nothing to do with the boxset plot.

I love the way Cally has been portrayed by Big Finish. Jan Chapel has done some great work and her character has developed well, but this was an overload of the least interesting aspects of her character. Worse than that, it was essentially a solo story when the best that B7 offers is in character relationships.

Possibly the worst of Blakes 7 in the last 40 years.

Another religious zealot, another mysterious voice speaking to Callys mind etc etc.

Nothing new to offer and nothing new to say. Jan Chappell turns in a terrible performance. Some scenes, like when she was being attacked and drained by the cave monster were just an endurance test to listen to. If that's what the director thought was the best take then I shudder to think what the others were like.

This offers nothing to the overall plot of the box set. Avoid avoid avoid.
