It's been a decade since every member of the Counter Measures Team (save Sir Toby) has died. The first part of the box set is Toby apparently playing a lone hand as he sneaks into the opera, but stumbles into an assassination attempt. However, he apparently dies which leads to his old team (officially dead but really living under assumed names) return to honor him and then find themselves in the midst of an intricate plot.

The story has a great bit of suspense and action. Toby is a great character and the parts with him as the solo man of action are marvelous. The story sets up a lot of questions for the finale and is full of action and suspense from start to finish. Overall, a very strong first episode.

Kinsella, Gilmore, Jenson and Williams, once again grace our eardrums. The Light are the sole crusade of Kinsella, to rid the earth of them once and for all, he has engineered a way of getting rid of them once and for all, at least enough to make a decided dent in their attempts to over throw and rule the earth. However, whilst implementing his plan of extraction he encounters two slight anomalies, one an old chum from his university days, whom just happens to be a Middle Eastern Prince, and the other an assassin, who in the confusion of carnage of the Light’s execution at the opera, Kinsella is hunted down by an killer, and we hear him shot and fall to his death in the river. Is this the end, who is the Prince, and our three counter measure members are about to get all mixed up again in a battle for the safety of us all. Oh wow, it was so good to hear that Big Finish bought back Counter Measures and this introductory to the New Counter Measures is both rewarding and excellent, I love the old team back in their stride, but I especially love the overall feel of this release, it gives nostalgia a wonderful injection of pace, whilst being fresh and exciting and new this is also a massive slab of that 60’s quirky spy thriller genre with just a twist of the science fiction that I have come to love in this series from Big Finish, simply top stuff.

Great acting, great story and a great release, only let down only by really awful incidental music that just never seems to stop. I'm not keen on the discordant new arrangement of the theme music either.
