The Edge is about a research station in an asteroid belt where this miracle substance called Acheman being discovered there which enhances the brain power of humans. This is a brilliant story this is for Jamie, he's one of my favourite companions and he's extremely well explored here. You can see despite his outer macho confidence he tries to express, he feels really insecure, especially with the Doctor and Zoe who are so clever it really makes him feel a bit inferior. That's why it's a great moment to have him defeat the villains and rescue all the clever people using his sheer stupidity and irrationality! Seriously this is Jamie at his best, if you're a fan of his this is the audio for you.

The structure of the story itself is very good, it has a nice slow build up with a lot of mystery followed by an incredibly tense part 2 which keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. It knows exactly what to do and when making for an amazingly paced story. My only complaint would be that to make Jamie be so good in this story they kind of sacrifice having any other character be particularly memorable which detracts slightly, especially if you're not a Jamie fan but it's still relatively minor.

The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe land on a space station on an asteroid which is inhabited by some of the most intelligent and well-educated people in the galaxy and where a mental stimulant is sold like a steroid. The Doctor and Zoe are taken to a lab while Jamie sits around the station feeling out of place. Jamie finds out that the Megalomaniacal leader wants the Doctor and Zoe to work for him and that Jamie is surplus to requirements.

Probably the best story in the set as it really gives Jamie a chance to shine as he has to stay alive and save his friends while battling an evil genius who views Jamie as an idiot, thus confusing intelligence and knowledge while also discounting Jamie's other virtues.

The story is set between "The Space Pirates" and "The War Games" and does serve as a nice marker of Jamie's progress and life in the TARDIS.

Rather a clever little fourth and final episode to the first release of the inaugural second doctor box set. The story can be summarised in one simple sentence. Being clever, isn't always a good way to survive, a megalomaniac drugs lord who secretly wants to take over the universe. Yes it really is that simple, however the genius part of the story is the bit where Nisbet as turned it into a second doctor story, with what I can only describe as a classic. There is a lot of Jamie in this, and it does resemble the companion chronicle releases a lot more than most. But that aside it has a pace unlike the other stories in this collection. The writing is crisp and Frazer really makes the most of playing the hero. the one riding thing that sticks out with all of these stories is collectively they have the feel of the era, if it isn't the casting, it the music and if it's not either of those elements its the way that Big Finish have produced what, for me is classic Who with just a twist of relevance. Cannot wait for box set two to be confirmed.
