This episode is essentially a bank heist story on another planet with a mystery element and a time travel element. It is nice when time travel is used well in a plot without becoming totally illogical (Steven Moffatt sadly ignores the logic aspect far too often) and this plot basically makes sense and makes time travel central to the story. The mystery is tied in to that and the Doctor using his brains to solve a problem is always a great thing as that is the essence of Doctor Who. Also the Doctor's compassion in trying to appreciate and help an alien 'monster' is a basic Doctor Who feature which is used well here.

The 'villain' being a banker is a great idea and should be used again in future as banking greed is something which makes perfect sense and relates to real life as well as making sense in alien or future worlds. Keeley Hawes is a very good actress and she plays her part as well as possible and other guest acting is of a good standard.

The adventure is not the most exciting or interesting one ever but is good. The supposedly impregnable bank is not all that convincingly portrayed but the deeper themes of how people behave and how people are treated are thoughtfully presented making this a fairly strong episode overall. It is a standard Doctor Who story without reaching exceptional levels.

The plot device of the Doctor not knowing who is the heist leader is a gem. The Teller is a first rate creation, Keely Hawes' Ms Delphox is excellent and the resolution of the story is perfectly cogent. The rest of the support cast are, however, rather two dimensional as the pacey action gives them no real opportunity to establish any depth of character. Still, overall it is a very good episode.

Time Heist is another solid story from Series 8. With Doctor, Clara, and two strangers sent to rob the most secure bank in the galaxy on behalf of the mysterious Architect after voluntarily having agreed to have their memory wiped, this story had me at attention from start to finish.

The story was stylish and superbly directed from start to finish. The mysterious guest bandits were well-conceived, and the plot twists were all very reasonably explained.
