Black Out is a stand out in the Eleventh Doctor Audiobooks. This one doesn’t fall on stock, predictable Doctor Who books. Instead, it presents a mystery and a ticking bomb with a poison hitting 1960s New York City and the Doctor racing against time to find a cure to a disease that could kill him and his companions, but perhaps not the mysterious cab driver who finds himself at the center of the story.

In addition to the script, the production value is markedly better than many prior audiobooks which used sparse sound effects. This one brings the city and so many events to life in a much fuller sound.

The reader does a good job. He doesn’t mimic any of the main stars but does do a fair enough impression that you know who is supposed to be talking. The ending isn’t quite as good as the build up, but it’s not awful either. It’s a decent ending to a very good story. Overall, well worth a listen.
