The Eyeless is set during the year of tv specials and it definitely fits into this era in terms of tone and overall feel of the adventure.
The story starts rather suddenly, with no proper introduction to set the scene, but it soon settles down and an interesting and evenly paced plot unfolds. Only the last half hour or so is a little rushed. All the neccessary information is there, so the resolution does make sense, but compared to the rest of the adventure this is pretty rapid story telling, with a number of explanations and revelations in quick succession.
Lance Parkin gets the Doctor absolutely spot on and gives him plenty of very ten-ish things to do and say. The discussion at the town-hall meeting feels particularly in tune with Tennant's later episodes.
Russell Tovey reads this story rather well and he is surprisingly good at doing an (angry) teenaged-girl voice.
The eerie setting, a believable conflict and a number of strong characters make this quite a good listen for anyone who likes this particular era of the show.
