A passable effort, anchored by outstanding central performances from Bowerman and Courtney. The humor often seems quite forced, though, and the story rambles along with little direction until eventually wrapping itself up in a rather arbitrary and unsatisfying fashion. It probably would have worked better at half its length. As a first attempt, it's not bad, but there's a lot of room for improvement.

"Oh no it isn't" is one of the most atypical Benny adventures ever and as such it's a rather odd choice to start off the range. The dialogue at the beginning is a bit of an info dump about Benny's background and with the whole thing about to be turned into a world of panto this really isn't an ideal introduction for the character. However, Benny's sarcasm works perfectly in this environment; her barbs are a brilliant contrast to the weird and silly goings on around her.

The pacing is a bit uneven, with variable episode lengths and a story that isn't particularly episodic anyway, but that doesn't really matter very much. The sound design is very good and the acting performances from the entire cast are suitably over the top and engaging. Nicholas Courtney as Woolsey the cat in particular is an absolutely wonderful choice and Courtney and Bowerman play off each other brilliantly.

So whilst this might not be the best episode for somebody who has never encountered Benny, "Oh no it isn't" is still a fantastically creative adventure that is just so much fun to listen to.

I've listened to a lot of Big Finish over the years but finally decided to go back to the beginning and purchase the old Bernice Summerfield audios. This is an adaptation of one of the few New Adventure novels I never read and seems an odd choice to introduce the range. A world of pantomime with Nicholas Courtney playing Wolsey the cat is different to say the least. The whole thing holds together surprisingly well and the quality was better than I was expecting.

It may not be the best story to introduce the Bernice Summerfield range (even if Lisa is wonderful as usual) but it is entertaining nevertheless. Oh and it gets points for having the Grel in it.

I'm not exactly the biggest pantomime fan so this isn't my favourite release... It's a bit of a risky place to introduce the range, but it does work. It was wonderful having Nicholas Courtney playing a talking cat. Other than that, I didn't exactly love this one.
