A fun little story, and only as long as it needs to be, which is a refreshing change. This is a small story, and since it doesn't have to fit into an arbitrary format, it's allowed to be small. It has a very simple story with very simple characters and not a lot of surprises. But it's fun. It's kind of refreshing to get a nice, silly little adventure like this for the eighth Doctor and Charley. There story has become extremely complicated and emotional lately. It's nice to revisit a simpler time.

Recorded on 16 May 2003, 'Living Legend' was written by Scot Gray and directed by Gary Russell. This CD was free with DWM 337.

Publisher Summary: "The world faces imminent destruction when Italy wins the World Cup! Can the fabled Time Lady Charleyostiantayshius save humanity from the dreaded Threllip Empire, or will her idiot assistant, the Doctor, ruin everything?"

The music is creeping, pulsing and ominous. It reminds me of an old B-movie soundtrack. The Threllip voices are heavily modulated but seem to have a West Country accent. Paul and India are both very good and inject a life into what could be a rather dull piece otherwise. Only 22 mins long so more of a scene than a story, but very good.

A nice short diversion with the Doctor and Charley thwarting an alien invasion of Earth by stopping two not-so-bright aliens. The story's not brilliant, but it's enjoyable and inoffensive. Charley and the Doctor play well off each other and it's a nice change of pace for this duo.

Although no more than a sketch really, this is great fun with wonderful banter between Charley and the Eighth Doctor impersonating haughty Time Lords and manipulating invading aliens round their little fingers. The only question is when is Scott Gray going to write a full length story?
