Warlock's Cross sees the return of the "much loved character", Daniel Hopkins. With no offence intended towards Blake Harrison, Hopkins is one of the most bland returning characters ever. It feels like his inclusion dooms the story and biases me against it right from the start.

Then there is the return of the genuinely loved character Elizabeth Klein, who had sadly been watered down in recent years. She is not at her best in this story, but at least we know she has potential. It gives us something to hope for across the story.

The older 7th Doctor is not realising his potential either. Rather than being the true master of manipulation and grand scheming, he is tired and perhaps it is time for him to head for new year's eve and his appointment was Grace.

Steve Lyons has produced some very good stories in the past, some of my favourites, but this one falls disappointingly into mediocrity. It isn't actually bad, it is just average.
