Osgood is held against her will by an old colleague who wants to make his own Sontaran clones.Meanwhile, Kate and Colonel Shindi are headed to the wreckage of the crashed Sontaran vessel.

This is an enjoyable Sontaran story with enough twists to not make it seem stale or overdone. As usual, Dan Starkey is a fantastic Sontaran and Ramon Tikaram gets to show how a strong a character Shindi can be. The villains in this are the only letdown, particularly Osgood's colleague. Essentially, he announces that he's decided to completely change his nature because of beautiful luscious money. While in real life, people do sell out their values for cash, they're rarely this irritatingly over the top. Other than that, this was an enjoyable hour.

Story 3 in 'Encounters' sees the return of Dan Starkey as the Sontarans as they collide with head-on with our UNIT team. Once again split up by circumstance, Colonel Shindi comes upon something mysterious in the Forest of Ardennes following a trail of mysterious lights and signal originating from the sky. It's an alien shape with a familar force looking for one of their own. On the opposite side of the continent, Osgood is approached by an old colleague of hers to come onboard a new scientific project with significant advances promised as part of the collaboration. But when the nature of that endeavor is fully revealed to her, it seems that she might have a part to play in this venture after all. To accommodate the situations, Kate is forced to bring the full force of UNIT in while making an unlikely and somewhat surprising alliance in the process. 'Project' is certainly a strong Sontaran tale in the tradition of other Sontaran audios and the concept behind this one is surprisingly unique. It's a different twist to see what humans can do with Sontaran technology and try to use it for their own ends as opposed to the usual Sontaran glory motif. This twist enhances every other aspect around this story especially performance-wise. While Ramon Tikaram feels somewhat lackluster in his role as Shindi even with his soldier demeanor, Ingrid Oliver's performance as Osgood is particularly good here. This story really forces her as a character to confront the difficulty and betrayal of what's going on as well as the scientific side of when and how this technology should be used for. It's an interesting angle for her and one that I feel UNIT should be exploring more often in their exploits considering what they have lying around. You can however see the twist coming with her side of the story a mile away and the way it links to Shindi's story (while not surprising) is appropriate. Starkey remains fantastic as the voice of all of the Sontaran roles and infuses such individual personality into each one despite the fact that they are clones. It would be so easy for him to create multiple Straxes with each audio but he always manages to put 110% into each of his characters and here is no different. The soundscape is fine and all of the other aspects work well enough especially the mystery surrounding the auctioneer behind the project itself. But it all leads to exactly where you might expect with everything looping on each other especially when Kate's involvement in the plot becomes apparent near the halfway mark. In the end, I enjoyed 'Sontaran Project' a lot and it's another enjoyably strong story in UNIT's canon particularly for Osgood and her character. I just sort of wish that it did a few things differently with its plot and tone to make it just a tad stronger.
