At the end of her travels with the Doctor, Zoe Herriot's memories of these travels were wiped. A mysterious stranger meet Zoe and offers to help restore her memory and decides to begin with her meeting with Zoe. A research facility owned by a mysterious company is claiming cures to many diseases---at a high price.

The material is intriguing particularly as start to a series of Companion Chronicles with Zoe facing the company. The way the Doctor defeats the menace is clever and there's a good deal of atmosphere.

The downside of this production is that it seems a little derivative. Given that this is a story of the Second Doctor, it's odd that the plot so closely followed along with ideas in a 2006 10th Doctor Story, "New Earth" and also has the Doctor making a reference to a Douglas Adams Book, "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" which wouldn't be written until 1980. Kinda of ruins any period feel. Overall, this is okay but hoping for better in the follow up stories.

I've listened to this twice, when it was first released and a revisit this month. I can't put my finger on why it doesn't appeal to me. I love black and white Who - Wendy Padbury gives a nice reading, and the linking storyline between past and present works well. Yet, for some reason this left me cold - I can't explain why.

This is a strangely uninvolving Companion Chronicle, despite the talents of Wendy Padbury and the usually tip-top writer. Events tend to move at a slower pace than one would like, and although this succeeds in conveying an uneasy 'surgical' atmosphere very well, it makes the listeneer hanker for something powerful to happen.

As far as capturing the era goes, this Companion Chronicle ticks all the boxes. This felt like an authentic 2nd Doctor base under seige story throughout, with a framing device that didn't detract.
