I bought this novel with no expectations whatsoever. That's a good thing because at least I wasn't disappointed.
Yeah, it's not a great one. It's probably the weakest EDA I have read so far.
The main problem is exposition. I have no idea what the world of Skale looks like. I have no idea what Mechta looks like. Also, the novel feels more like a string of events. I really do not know why this thing happened, why that thing is connected to this thing etc.
Also, there are more than fifteen side characters, all who have weird spacey names (some of which are really long) that are gender-neutral. So I didn't realise the character of Yve was female until she died and so on.
Something that I also don't understand is why the Doctor and Compassion had to be naked for the first quarter of the book.
Another thing that hindered my enjoyment of the novel was when the Doctor kept referring to events in the story that never happened. I suspect that a great deal of this story actually happens in the previous EDA, Frontier Worlds, but I have no read that one so I do not know.
Yeah, I don't like this one. Must say, when I first looked at my physical copy, I had to admit, the cover looks amazing printed and the spine is beautiful, making it look amazing on the shelf.
