Katy Manning provides a solid performance to what's a very "paint by numbers" Third Doctor story. It would have helped if the central mystery were more of a mystery but the title of the story is, "Time Tunnel," which gives the game away. The story name checks half a dozen other third Doctor stories, has the Brigadier wanting to blow whatever is behind the tunnel up and the Doctor despairing of the human race and the military in particular with their speed to blow things up they understand. Overall, this was a derivative and somewhat boring approach to the Third Doctor.

Ok I loved the Who with the Daemons so it will come as no surprise that I loved this short stories release as well, in fact there is a very quick reference made to the Daemons in this by the wonderfully evergreen Katy. The story is simple, and for something that runs just over 30 minutes it is perfect. There is however one massive problem, this is basically a watered down version of the said same Pertwee adventure albeit that the events are changed and we now have a train, that as passed through a tunnel and everyone aboard, as died, due to some mysterious intervention of time itself. Needless to say the Doctor with Jo and the usual crew of the third Doctor incarnation are at hand. The story is massive slice of nostalgia served up and wonderfully read by Katy, I like the fact that from this it could well introduce you to wanting to watch the Daemons and if it does that cannot be a bad thing.

Even though the Short Trips seems to be a proving ground for lesser writers, some of them seem better than expected.
What elevated this story was definitely the performance of Katy Manning

The twist of what 'The Time Tunnel' actually was and
how the surrounding landscape was impacted
was quite clever though.

So overall I would say this is added to by Katy's obvious affection for the memory of The Brig and definitely of the Doctor
