Liberator has picked up an SOS – in Morse Code no less!! They follow the signal to a moon, where Avon and Vila teleport down and find a survivor from a space ship accident – who turns out to be an old colleague of Vila’s.
Lang has been working for the resistance on Trease helping to overthrow the Federation.
He asks for the help of Blake’s crew. Vila goes with him to rescue the ruler of Trease. But it turns out not to be so simple (of course) but a trap for Vila who is being sought by someone he did not even know he had crossed years ago. Blake was suspicious, so Avon followed Vila down in time to rescue him – but now they find themselves trapped in a mountain mine. They need to find a means to get down from the mountain, away from those chasing them.
This episode has some of the best sound effects so far – machine noises, weather, static radio, strong winds and more, all done brilliantly. But I don’t really like the music – it is clashing and distracting.
The writing is good, the story tight.
The acting is very good as usual. Paul Darrow and Michael Keating always work well together and this is demonstrated particularly well here. Paul is always worth listening to, he is very skilled and puts across the techical details needed in this tale rather well. His clipped tones and air of irritation when others would be terrified is awesome. Michael manages to put the emotion in his voice very well, plus he voices a couple of other characters as well. John Banks as the guest actor is charming then menacing by turn.
So this story is about revenge for a mistake that led to a tragedy years ago, and how some people can hold a grudge for a long, long time.
A full on adventure story, very well produced and fun to listen to.
Thanks for listening, hope you all have a good 2017 – and you can listen to a great audio play when you want a relaxing hour.
