This is the first Big Finish audio I wasn't really that fond of.. it's not really a bad one and I feel like I'm being nice giving it a 5 as I kind of this it's between a 4 or 5, I can't fully decide.. The characters don't seem fussed about Venice literally sinking and killing people and I didn't really give too much of a crap about this characters wife sub plot as I barely knew him and he seemed like a self entitled smug prick. The king.. or whatever he was who's name I can't really remember said he didn't care about anything beside the spectacle, so did he love his wife? it didn't really seem like he did, he just wanted the curse lifted... I just.. didn't really understand his motives to be honest and Charley fucking pissed me off through this one.. "Oh what's the doctor got me into" "Oh wow.. look what the doctors done" IT'S NOT ALL THE FUCKING DOCTORS FAULT!!! SHUT UP!! She's was a decent companion in the last 2 stories but this one I was just grinding my teeth in agony whenever she accused the doctor of shit. It really pissed me off and I felt like yelling "SHUT THE FUCK UP" to her about 20 times... also SPOILER WARNING Estellar being his wife was so bloody predictable.. sorry about the swearing :/ I don't hate this one.. it may seem like it.. I think Paul Mcgann did a stellar job and the supporting cast were really good and India Fisher did impress me despite the hate towards her character a lot in this episode... and I know this wont become a running trend with her character because... well I've listened to stories from future episodes and she's a lot nicer in them to the doctor.. instead of talking behind his back...

I think that this story did a great job at making the cybermen absolutely bloody scary again. I was kind of upset due to the underuse of the cybermen and the twist at the end was the most bloody obvious thing that could've happened that I didn't even see it as a twist to be honest. I wasn't too impressed with Charley in this story, she seems like the doctors 100% best friend for life at this point and at a few points I was curious to how she was coping so well with all this stuff. I don't think it's bad, I just found it... kind of meh.

This is the reintroduction to the 8th doctor we deserved.. he's awesome in this and it's great hearing his brilliant voice in this adventure. Paul Mcgann is bloody excellent in this and India Fisher is just as good. I honestly really enjoyed this story, the plot is a bit of a confusing one at a few points (mainly part 3) but once you have a full understanding it's really, really good. I first listened to this a few months back, didn't think much of it, now relistening, I love it even more and I do think a lot of it. It was probably me being stupid last time.. this seriously made me want to commit to listening to more big finish and I am now.. I have to owe it to this one and Chimes of Midnight for that.

Honestly, I really liked this one. Sure it's not perfect, a lot of stuff that needs explaining is never explained at all and at some points it was really tedious and slow. I only really thought the first part sucked, after that it really started to pick up the pace and got me invested as it was bloody loopy, and I just have to admire it for being one of the most insane stories I've ever listened to. It was honestly really enjoyable and Nicholas Courtney's reappearance was awesome as fuck. It's honestly great hearing the doctor and Lethbridge stewart react as you do get the sense that they are old friends. I actually admire the part of the plot where the doctor is interacting with Gideon Crane, the man who believes he is the doctor and sort of makes the doctor believe he isnt. that for me was the best part of the story and I've seriously grown a remarkable love towards the 8th doctor especially because of this story.. which.. this one being incredibly divisive is kind of weird to be honest.. well for me at least. I understand the whole Demon thing is a bit stupid and I really hated some of the parts with Charley but otherwise I really enjoyed it. I understand this isn't a popular one so I probably wouldn't reccomened it to people who are tuning into big finish for the first time.. start with Storm Warning, it's better than this one and is seriously beautiful.
