It should go without saying, but spoilers ahead.

Not only do we get every era of the show at least touched upon, we get new histories added and even the trip to PT. It adds a new richness of colour not only to the Big Finish range but the classic series as a whole gets a fresh infusion of mythology. As if that wasn't enough already, by the end of the play we're not celebrating just the past, but the future of Dark Shadows. Superb.

A very good introduction to the Dark Shadows world as the story follows a Crimson Pearl through its history of owners, offering glimpses of their lives and loves.

It's only natural that a release celebrating 45 years of Dark Shadows should revel in the show's past and alienate newer listeners/viewers. As a newbie myself, I wouldn't have it any other way.
The skill in this release though, is that it features so many cast members old and new (with the unfortunate absence of Willie Loomis actor John Karlen), touches upon so many storylines and embraces so much of the mystery that makes the show great even now - and still provides an entertaining audio that reveals more intricacies on every listening. Tremendous.
