This wasn't a range I had really been able to get into. Until this point, while I enjoyed the stories, I felt as if the range was a bit of a let down.

And then I listened to Just War.

I speak for myself and for my friends from school that I forced this on when I say that this is by far the strongest story in series one. It does what Doctor Who fails to do so often, in that it takes a character and puts them through absolute hell. The danger is real, and unlike TV there's no guarantee that the characters are actually going to get through it in one piece. Bowerman gives an outstanding performance as Benny is tortured by the Nazis, while all the other characters are well developed.

Wow man...just wow...What a freaking amazing audio. By far, the jewel of Benny Season 1. Awesome way to wrap up the Time Ring Trilogy and another point for the pure historicals. I would call this the Marian Conspiracy of the Bernice Summerfield range (hell, it has got even Maggie Stables in it).

I am a fan of any story featuring World War II or the natzis and this only justifies my argument. Excellently played scenes: Benny being tortured by the natzis (Bowermans best performance of the first season), her emotional stuggle after accidentally killing a young german private, the speech by Oberst Steinman talking about why he believes on the Third Reich and finally his faith falling apart after reading about both the outcome of the war on Bennys diary and his own fatal destiny in Nuremberg.

Also theres Jason (getting caught...again) after nearly changing history because of some drunk self-indulgent about his past; he kills the sadic SS officer who tortured her wife (i mean ex-wife) and rubbed in his face that Kanes desire of having the natzis wiped out from the face of the Earth is no different from his of doing the same with the jews...After all, his backstory gives him a reason: his grandad was killed in WW2, and his father growing up without one, ended up beating up his own children. Great development for both main characters and even in the end Bernice feels like after this she wont ever be the same again.

You know, there is another one left but it felt a lot like a season finale; mentioning stuff from all previous four audios; so well see what Dragons Wrath is all about. But Just War its easily a 10/10 listen.

Brilliant, thought provoking and at times very touching. This is what science fiction is all about.

The story is set in occupied Guernsey and manages to bring to life some of the horrors of everyday life inder Nazi occupation, alongside the day-to-day existance and the make-do spirit which now and again provides moments of hope and joy.

This is a must hear story.
