The Doctor is sent to convince a rouge Time Lord that he should return to Gallery and take up his proper role with Time Lord society, alas he is taken by the life he has come to lead, as the chosen leader to a society of avian-human alien's. Nyssa and the Doctor witness however that the societies rules surrounding justice are not altogether fair, and, in true Time Lord fashion the Doctor and Nyssa therefore cannot convince the Zero (the gone native time lord) that this intervention will not be at the best for either himself or for the species that he has become their leader.

Nice quick 30 minute short, with plenty of interplay between Peter and Sarah on this, I especially liked Hugh Frazier portrayal of Zero in this with his almost dammed if I do or don't approach to the Time Lord who to be frank is not that far removed from what we have come to understand of the Doctor's past. Circular time is a take on the four season spring, summer, autumn/fall, and winter. I think this having the bird theme and that of rebirth subtly thrown in with the actual conclusion is a clever unused twist. Bravo to the team for this. A lovely twist in the tale to end and we are on to the second instalment of this 4 part supplementary release from the main range.

Not sure why this has got such a comperatively low score. The aliens are truely alien and all the more interesting for it. All the characters come off the page very well and there is a great sense of danger throughout. A strong central idea, an evocative setting and good performances allround make this a powerful opening story for Circular Time.

I liked this more than many apparently. I thought the world it created was interesting and the disobedient Time Lord character was someone worth meeting. The twist at the end made me smile.
