Fear is the second part of the first series of Cyberman. Following on from the events of Scorpius, Fear seems to take a left turn at the beginning with the first 10 minutes dedicated to following an android agent who made only a fleeting appearence at the beginning of Scorpius. I have to admit that I was expecting Fear to follow on directly from the cliffhanger at the end of Scorpius but it is made clear that several months have passed since then. As in Scorpius the use of the Cybermen is minimal but this really serves to make it all the more dramatic when they do appear. Fear for the most part focuses on the character of Liam Barnaby the Chief of Earths Armed Forces as he gets increasingly suspicious of the mysterious Paul Hunt. What works really well is the way in which every other character makes Barnaby seem paranoid when he is actually the only person who can see through Hunt.

I can highly recommend the second part of Cyberman and I eagerly anticipate hearing part three.

Scorpius is the first part of the first series of Cyberman. As you'd expect this opening episode has to set the scene for the rest of the series and it does this brilliantly leaving this listener eagerly anticipating the next episode. The main plot for Scorpius revolves around the Orion war between the Humans and the Androids which was previously seen (or rather heard) in the 8th Doctor audio "Sword Of Orion". While it isnt neccesary to have heard "Sword Of Orion before you hear Cyberman I would still recommend you do as it will give you more background information into the Orion War. The Cybermen themselves dont really appear too often in Scorpius but to be honest as it is the opening episode I didnt really think they would.

I highly recommend Scorpius especially if you were a fan of "Sword Of Orion". If the rest of the series is as good as this then I cant wait to hear it.

The word "fear" was used so many times in the opening minutes that I thought I had the wrong episode. On the whole, I find the who Earth/Human government to be poorly presented and not particularly believable. I find its president to be less believable. She gives a speech at the start of this that a local mayor would give before losing an election. It is not the speech of the president of a government spanning half the galaxy. I fear there is not one human character in the story that is interesting.

I did like the androids though. They were believable.

The cybermen remain poorly written as the over arching plot is not something the cybermen would actually do and their method is far from logical. These guys have enhanced neurology allowing them to make fast decisions, yet they have to spend five minutes discussing what is "logical" before they act.

I yawned all the way through the first half and almost gave up on the whole series it was so bad. The second half was better, but not by enough to justify listening to the whole thing.
